THE GENERAL DATA PROTECTION REGULATIONS 2018

 

One of the biggest changes to UK data privacy laws came into effect on 25 May 2018. The General Data Protection Regulations, also known as GDPR, mean that you will have more control over how your data is used and it ensures that organisations protect your personal data better. To reflect these changes and new obligations we are updating our Privacy Policy which will tell you what we do with your personal data and how we use it.

THE SURVEY SHIPS ASSOCIATION - PRIVACY POLICY

 

The Survey Ships Association [SSA] is committed to protecting your personal information. In this notice, references to ‘we’, ‘our’ or ‘us’ means the Survey Ships Association. This notice explains how we collect and use the personal information about you.

 

The Object of the Association is to perpetuate the "Esprit de Corps" and comradeship amongst past and present Ships Companies of all Royal Navy Survey Ships. The SSA operates the website: www.surveyships.org.uk , where no personal information will be kept or posted except for a list of current members by name only and the ships they served in.

 

The SSA is a data controller under the data protection rules and our Data Protection Officer is The Membership Secretary, Mr A.J. Miles, 12 Pilgrim Road, Boston, Lincs, PE21 6JW.  e-mail: bertmiles@btinternet.com 

 

In order to carry out our activities the SSA gathered certain information about you when you applied to become a full member, associate member or honorary member which included - Full Name, Home Address, Telephone Numbers, E-Mail Address, Next of Kin and Date of Birth. This information and details of ships and surveying activities you served on / were employed on will be held by the Membership Secretary and also incorporated into The Survey Ships Association Directory which is posted only to Members and updated with amendments provided by Members. Please be assured that having legitimate interests we will look after your data with the utmost care to protect your confidentiality and privacy.

 

Our current Membership Application Form is compliant with the new rules.  No changes to our current practices are envisaged and there is NO NEED to sign more forms.

 

Members may, at any time, request a copy of the information held about them and may also elect NOT to have their contact details printed in the Members Directory, in which case it will show “Contact via Membership Secretary”
