        As a matter of interest, the idea for the original branch tie was conceived at a survey get together in Chatham barracks in about 1964-65, when former Hydrographer of the Navy, Rear Admiral Sir David Haslam, was the Commander of barracks. The original tie had the motifs painted in red. This was later replaced with gold embroidered motifs very similar to todays tie.
        Prospective purchases must be serving or retired H officers,SR ratings or HMs who have completed the Advanced HM course at the HMTG. People who have a very close association with the branch and who have maintained an enduring link or close association over a number of years will also be considered.
